Brightspace Resources for Students – Spring 2023 Pilot

Welcome to the Spring 2023 Brightspace Pilot Project! You are among the first students on the UAlbany campus to take a course in D2L’s Brightspace, and you have an important role to play in helping the campus get ready for the full transition to Brightspace in Summer 2023. This page will provide you with resources for accessing, using, and getting help with Brightspace. It also provides additional information about your participation in the pilot project.

Logging into Brightspace

For your pilot course, you will log in on UAlbany’s Brightspace site using your NetID and password. For courses that are not part of the Brightspace pilot, you will continue to log into Blackboard through MyUAlbany or directly from UAlbany’s Blackboard site.

Using Brightspace

Brightspace provides both video tutorials and written instructions to help students (called “learners” in Brightspace) learn how to complete common tasks in Brightspace. Select from the list below to learn how to complete basic tasks in Brightspace.

Using Brightspace Pulse (Mobile App)

Brightspace Pulse is a mobile app that can help you stay connected and on track with your courses in Brightspace. You can get Pulse for Apple or for Android devices. Brightspace has several resources for using Brightspace Pulse to manage your course workload, including how to view and configure push notifications. A downloadable Pulse Learner Guide is also available from the Brightspace Community.
Note: When you log into the Pulse App for the first time, you’ll be asked “Who provides your learning. The University at Albany is listed as UAlbany.

Getting help with Brightspace

UAlbany students will have access to 24/7 support directly from D2L, including live chat, phone, and email. To access help, log into Brightspace and click on the “Get Help” icon on the bottom right of your screen.

After you type in your question or concern, you will receive resources from the Brightspace Community. If those resources don’t provide the help you need, you will have the option to contact support and can speak to a live support agent by live chat, email, or phone.

Participating in the Pilot Project

The UAlbany Brightspace Implementation teams wants to learn from your experience in the pilot project, so we will be seeking feedback from you in a variety of ways. First, you will be asked to complete a survey about Brightspace early in the semester. We also invite you to submit a comment any time you would like to share feedback with UAlbany’s Brightspace team about the Brightspace platform.
