Using Disagreement to Develop Students’ Thinking
August 11 @ 1:00 PM - 2:15 PM
A key concern for instructors last year was ensuring that students navigated remote discussions in a civil and productive manner. Discussing “hot button” topics can be just as challenging in the face-to-face classroom, especially when an exchange becomes heated because it takes an unanticipated direction. If we aren’t prepared for these conversations, we can quickly feel like we’re losing control or that student interaction is becoming unproductive or upsetting. In this workshop, you’ll learn strategies for navigating difficult discussions. You will leave with ideas for how you can help students use disagreement to develop their thinking and interact more productively.
