CATLOE can help you digitize your existing media (DVD, Blu Ray, VHS, or SD cards) into formats that can easily be made available for students in your courses. The campus-wide streaming media service is Panopto, a content management system that allows you to upload and manage your own audio and video content through Brightspace.
If you already have Panopto-ready files (formats include .MP4, .MP3, .MPG, and .AVI), you can upload them through Brightspace. First, you will need to add Panopto to your Brightspace course. Then you can use these instructions from Panopto to guide you through the process of uploading your files. After you have uploaded your videos, you can embed them in your Brightspace course using the “Insert Stuff” tool.
If you have new media to be digitized for upload to Panopto, please submit the form below. Our office is open Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, and you are welcome to drop off your media at any time without an appointment. If you are unable to drop off materials during these hours, please email us and we would be glad to make alternative arrangements to meet your needs.
Please note: Media use may be limited by copyright. It is the responsibility of the faculty to ensure that media is used in accordance with the applicable sections of the TeachAct as well as fair use and copyright laws. The University Libraries also has a helpful LibGuide with best practices for using streaming media. Please review these resources before you request media digitization. ITLAL reserves the right to decline digitization of any items that are not owned by either the University Libraries or the instructor. We will gladly consult with instructors on how to obtain digitized copies of material not yet in the Libraries’ collections.
